LWMC kicks off anti-dengue awareness week

Formal ceremony organised at head office for which DC and LWMC MD were present

LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and district administration jointly kicked off an anti-dengue and sanitation week awareness campaign. To formally initiate the campaign, a ceremony was organised at the LWMC head office on Monday in which Lahore deputy commissioner, LWMC managing director (MD) and renowned singer Abrarul Haq participated.

Speaking on the occasion, the MD said that the department has made extraordinary arrangements to combat the dengue epidemic and in this regard, a special cleanup operation is underway.

He added that the LWMC is working in close coordination with the district administration to jointly conduct the awareness programme. “Our campaign is expected to reach every educational institute in the public and private sector that is organising awareness sessions, conducting awareness walks and displaying public service messages across the city.”

The purpose of the weeklong campaign is to sensitise the public to combat the dengue epidemic by maintaining cleanliness, he further said.

The DC said that LWMC services in the city are exceptional and the company is launching this awareness campaign to reduce the number of dengue patients. ‘We are trying to reduce the number of patients by raising awareness among the general public on how to combat the disease.”

Renowned celebrity Abrarul Haq expressed that the LWMC’s role in the city is quite remarkable and the sanitation conditions of the provincial capital are unmatchable. He added that he offered his services as environmental ambassador in raising awareness among citizens regarding preventive measures to combat dengue and maintaining cleanliness.

He stressed that the youth should play a vital role in this campaign using social media as they are receptive in nature and are the largest age group among the country’s population. He pledged to take part in every awareness campaign regarding the issue of sanitation. “I am thankful to the LWMC and district administration for holding the awareness campaign.”

Later, an awareness camp was installed outside Lahore Press Club in which all the guests took part including Lahore commissioner who led the awareness walk as part of the anti-dengue and sanitation week.
