Huge cache of arms seized, two suspects arrested in Rawalpindi raid

Weapons, including a foreign made machine gun, worth millions of rupees; investigation is underway

RAWALPINDI: Acting on a tip-off, police on Monday arrested two suspects and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from their possession in Rawalpindi.

According to police spokesperson, the suspects, identified as Ibadur Rehman and Muhammad Faisal, had hidden the large number of weapons, including a foreign made machine gun, worth millions of rupees secretly in an abandoned car parked on Adiala road near Gulshan-e-Iqbal bus stop.

The intelligence-based raid was carried out in line with the 'Operation Cleanup' headed by Saddar Circle SP Rai Mazhar Iqbal.

The seized arms also include around 1,200 bullets, four pistols, one sub-machine gun and a large variety of ammunition of different calibres.

Police arrest eight suspects, recover drugs and weapons

Sources said that the weapons were planned to use in various terror activities.

A special team has been constituted to dig deeper in the matter while the investigation is underway.

A case has been registered against the accused for allegedly keeping weapons, SP Iqbal said.
