Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Joker was recently awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

The film explores the origins of the most renowned DC villain of Gotham city. It is set in the early 80's and has been directed by Todd Phillips.

According to Euronews, critics have also claimed Joaquin could win his first Oscar for his performance. Philip De Demlyen, a critic for Time Out, called his interpretation of the character "magnetic," as the story follows his transformation from vulnerable loner to confident villain. Jack King at GQ wrote, "Much of what shouldn't work is sold in entirely by Phoenix's performance. if Joker ultimately proves anything, it's that he's the best actor of his generation."
