KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information, Archives and Labour Saeed Ghani presided over a meeting of the Sindh Employees of Social Security Institution (SESSI) on Tuesday. Labour Secretary Abdul Rasheed Solangi, SESSI Commissioner Kashif Gulzar, Vice Commissioner Safdar Hussain Rizi and other officers attended the meeting. Ghani was briefed on the functions and different sections of the organisation.

Ghani said that the Sindh government wants SESSI to play its role in providing maximum health facilities to workers. He said that the SESSI should take concrete steps for the provision of health facilities to the labour class. He directed the officials to improve the standard of health services of those hospitals which come under the administrative control of SESSI.  He stressed that the presence of doctors and medicine facilities be ensured and consultants or specialists be hired if and when necessary.

The minister said that the collection of Social Security Contribution which is 6 per cent must be ensured because it is the only source through which day to day expenditures of SESSI can be met. He suggested that non-development expenditures be curtailed so that the requirements of labourers can be met.

Earlier, while briefing Ghani, SESSI Commissioner Gulzar Shaikh said that the latest CT-scan machine has been installed in Valika Hospital which completes scanning in the least possible time. According to Shaikh, it is in the first time in the history of SESSI that facilities like the hysterosalpingogram [X-ray facility for the uterus and fallopian tubes] had been installed in Landhi hospital as well as endoscopy facilities.

Ghani was informed that laboratories in all the hospitals have been automated and the construction of the SESSI hospital in Sukkur has been completed. Besides, the construction of a Nursing School and Emergency Centre at Valika hospital and Landhi hospital is in progress as is the construction of a 25-bed hospital in Ghotki.
