Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali became emotional while criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB’s) move to abolish departments and introduce provincial teams in the domestic structure.

While speaking in a video, which was doing rounds on Twitter, Basit lamented that domestic cricketers will bear the financial consequences of PCB’s latest move.

"There is already enough inflation in the country, so if cricketers lose their jobs because of no departmental cricket, how will they survive?’ questioned Basit. ‘I request the PCB to hold at least one fifty-over and one Twenty20 competition for department teams in a domestic season, so that players don’t lose their jobs."

The 48-year-old also urged his former teammates to raise this issue with the PCB’s Patron-in-Chief Imran Khan.

"I request Rashid Latif, Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja to raise their voice on this issue. If you do not speak, it will be wrong," he said. "Please give your opinion on this matter to the Prime Minister as he values your advice."

It must be noted that the federal cabinet on Friday approved the new domestic cricket structure proposed by the PCB.
