The Senate Sub-Committee on National Health Services rejected the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Ordinance 2019, asking officials to redraft it.

The senate panel, which met with Senator Dr Ashok Kumar in the chair at the Parliament House on Friday, discussed the report by the Health Ministry and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on the reservations raised by members of the committee. Senators said that the PMDC Ordinance 2019, should be presented in the parliament in the form of a law with amendments proposed by members incorporated.

They also discussed the criteria of appointments, postings and transfers in the council from time to time for its officials and the procedure being adopted for the appointment of members of the council as well as the registrar and other administrative staff. The committee, while taking notice of the government issuing the PMDC Ordinance, said that there should be no ordinance which can damage doctors and students of the country and affect the degrees and credibility of the institution.

Senator Javed Abbasi highlighted the significance and consequences of PMDC Ordinance. He said the Supreme Court verdict has clearly called it “Fraud with the Constitution”.
