40 pigeons seized from smugglers

LAHORE: A raiding team of Punjab Wildlife Punjab Department took action on Allama Iqbal International Airport on Friday to prevent the smuggling of 40 rare pigeons to Lahore from Paris and Dubai. During the raid, two smugglers were accused and fined with an amount Rs28,000. According to details, Lahore Wildlife Deputy Director Abdul Shakoor Manj formed a special team headed by District Wildlife Officer Tanveer Janjua to recover 40 pigeons of rare breed. A total of 20 pigeons were recovered from Mukhtar Ahmed who arrived from Dubai and 20 pigeons of rare breed from Mohammad Aon Zafar who arrived from Paris. Later, on request of the department, fines of Rs20,000 and Rs8,000 were imposed on the accused and the amount has been added to the treasury. The same team, in another operation in the city, caught a man red-handed selling a wild shark and presented a challan in the court. The court ordered the release of the shark and adjourned the case for further hearing.
