‘Ban on gas cylinders in buses, wagons soon’

DC says every effort will be made to protect lives and properties of people

SAHIWAL: Sahiwal Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zaman Wattoo has said that the district administration will not allow transporters to install gas cylinders in wagons or buses any longer.

He was speaking at a ceremony organised to handover a cheque of Rs1.1 million to the mother of four boys who were killed when a wagon exploded due to the installation of a substandard gas cylinder.

Watoo said that they would make all efforts to protect the lives and property of people and provide them with the best travel facilities.

Varying options available to meet gas needs

The accident took place on June 8 in Gambar and the death toll increased to four in the next few days. The fourth person to die in the incident was one of three brothers. The first two brothers, Ahmed and Hamaad, died on the day of the incident while the third brother succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The fourth brother also died after a week.

On the day of the incident, the van caught fire due to a gas leakage and short circuit on Main GT Road in Gamber near Okara. As a result, the two brothers and a third person died on the spot. The father and their two other brothers and nine others sustained severe burn injuries.

The family members of the deceased protested against the tragic incident by burning tyres and blocking Main GT Road.
