ISLAMABAD: With two members already removed from the apex medical education and workers regulatory body, another two members were unceremoniously removed from the council during its meeting on Wednesday.

During Wednesday’s meeting, Dr Muslim Khan, the representative from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and head of the Khyber College of Dentistry in Peshawar, was handed a letter from the provincial government.

“The provincial government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has been pleased to withdraw the nomination of Dr Muslim Khan… as member of PMDC with immediate effect,” read the notice.

Similarly, when Dr Khalid Usman criticized a decision of the council to cut 20 per cent salary of the council’s employees along with abolishing their medical allowance, he was allegedly asked to leave the council as well.

The council also discussed the registration of an honourary degree awarded recently by PMDC to Dr Amer Bilal.

PMDC members Dr Shoaib Shah and Dr Suleman Jafar opposed the move citing directions from Justice Shakirullah Jan. Moreover, they raised questions over the inspection of a medical college in federal capital according to the new proforma.

PMDC cancels licences of 27 negligent doctors

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) is being run using autocratic practices currently.

The difference of opinion has been ceased and the members who are willing to keep it are being expelled.

Two members have to lose their membership after they criticized the decisions recently taken by the council.

The meeting, though, approved the appointment of Brigadier (retired) Hafizuddin Ahmed Siddiqui as the new registrar of the council.

In an official letter, signed by PMDC President Professor Dr Tariq Iqbal Bhutta and a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, the notice reads that “Reference to your application, preliminary interview/evaluation and the subsequent final interviews for the post. The council has been pleased to appoint you as Registrar, as per provisions of the PMDC Ordinance II of 2019.”

It further directed Brig (retired) Siddiqui to report to his new post within a week while terms and conditions of his appointment will be conveyed separately.

Previously Dr Amer Bilal and Ali Raza had quit the council. The two were the source of a conflict with PMDC employees who claimed that two of their colleagues had allegedly been sacked by the two former council members while another was facing an inquiry.
