Marvel’s mega blockbuster Avengers: Endgame is now closer than ever to beating the highest grossing film of all time Avatar at the worldwide box office.

While Endgame has earned $2.780 billion worldwide, Avatar ended its run at $2.788 billion. That makes the superhero flick now just $7.16 million behind the James Cameron project, reported Indian Express.

Endgame was recently re-released to promote Spider-Man: Far From Home. Marvel Studios bundled six minutes worth of new content to lure fans to theatres after hyping it up on social media.

The new version headed to theatres three weeks before the Disney debut of The Lion King, which is a live action remake of the animated 1994 classic. Some box office experts predict the animated film, starring superstar American singer Beyoncé, also has a shot at toppling Avatar in worldwide ticket sales.

Endgame wrapped up the 22-film Infinity Saga within the Marvel Cinematic Universe that began with Iron Man in 2008. The film also teased the future of MCU towards the end. It was directed by the Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo.
