Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey Report shows eight per cent increase in live births ratio

RAWALPINDI: In its latest Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey Report 2018, the Bureau of Statistics, Punjab government has indicated improvement in various social parameters in Rawalpindi division.

According to the report, the division experienced an eight per cent improvement in live childbirth ratio during the period under review as compared with previous year.

The report stated that public health facilities for pregnant women have improved by 20 per cent as compared with the past year.

As regards to child labour, the report indicated that employment of children has dropped by three per cent in Rawalpindi division during the period under review as compared with the past survey.

The report was issued in a ceremony held at Pir Mehar Ali Shah Barani Agricultural University.

On the occasion, the Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar, said that it was impossible to plan for future without correct statistical data. He added that owing to improper data, the resources were not evenly distributed amongst the mass es.

He said the bureau’s task was to prepare reports which facilitated the government to properly employ resources in sectors, such as health and education, where they were needed the most.

The commissioner told the report was an official account of data relating to child-mother health, child labour, underage marriage, infants’ death rate, child growth and other social indicators.

Further, the District Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, that it was nearly impossible to resolve problems without identifying them. He added that official statistics was the only source which helped in the identification of problems.

Dengue control

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chaudhary Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Tuesday said that prevailing weather was suitable for breeding of dengue larvae and there was a need to combat it on an emergency basis as dengue larva is being found in large number during indoor and outdoor surveillance.

Chairing a meeting along with Additional Secretary Health Suleman Ghani to review anti-dengue and anti-polio arrangements, he directed officials of the concerned departments to create awareness among the people to keep their houses clean and leave no place wet or with stagnant water.

The DC directed the officials that anti-dengue regulations be fully implemented and stern action be taken against those failing to comply with the laws.
