'Dil Dil Pakistan' lyricist Nisar Nasik passes away

The writer passed away at the age of 73

LAHORE: Nisar Nasik, the lyricist of the national song Dil Dil Pakistan passed away on Wednesday morning in Rawalpindi.

During the last days of his life, Nasik suffered from mild blindness and amnesia.  Despite being an eminent Urdu and Punjabi poet, not many know that Dil Dil Pakistan was penned by Nasik.

Amjad Islam Aslam, renowned writer and Sitara-e-Imtiaz laureate said, "He was a huge name in the field of poetry and literature. The man had command over modern and traditional writing. We are from the same era and he was a dear friend. Nasik's personality was different than most of us. He avoided literary gatherings and preferred to focus on work."

The writer further added requesting the Government of Pakistan to take care of national artists, "It is sad that his last days were tough on him and he had no help from anyone."

Dr Sugra Sadaf, Director General Punjab Institute of Language Art and Culture expressed her condolences saying, "I have known Nasik since decades now. He was not only a great poet but was also a good human being."

Talking about his claim to fame, Dil Dil Pakistan she said, "He produced a number of things in his life and did commendable work but, Dil Dil Pakistan made him who he was today."

Sung by the late Junaid Jamshed, the track took Vital Signs to new heights of success. He remained associated with Radio Pakistan throughout his life and also wrote songs for Pakistan Television (PTV). He holds two books to his credit, Chothi Simat Ka Musafir and Dil Dil Pakistan.

PTV awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to literature.

Nasik will be put to rest at the Ratta Amral graveyard in Rawalpindi today.
