AJK election fallout: MQM to support JUI-F in Senate

MQM chief Altaf Hussain calls JUI-F chief Fazl-ur-Rehman, assures support in Senate.

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain telephoned Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman to discuss key political issues, on Thursday.

According to sources the telephone call lasted for about twenty minutes wherein the two leaders discussed playing the role of joint opposition in the National Assembly and Senate. Altaf assured Fazal-ur-Rehman that MQM will support Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in the Senate.

Fazal-ur-Rehman said that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has repeatedly broken its promises made to both the masses and political parties.

Earlier, MQM had boycotted the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, blaming the PPP for rigging the election and had filed a petition in the SHC against it. Ministers in the party had tendered their resignation with President Asif Ali Zardari.

Rizwan Ali | 13 years ago | Reply Response After parting ways from coalition government, Altaf Bhai is in shock and now trying to find out venues to enter into corridors of power once again. His recent meeting with JUI-F chief, who like Bhai is always eager to remain in power, shows that both the groups ( Not parties because parties always have representation across the country like PPP) seem in trouble. For Molana “ Diesel” to remain out of power is like as the fish out of water and same as Bhai log. That’s why both the groups have no political ideology, no vision, no manifesto and no love for the country. Either a it is dictatorship or democracy, power is their sheer goal. However, the game is over, both the groups are exposed, the recent move by Altaf bhai proved “Achilles heel” for him. The more interesting thing that PML-N and MQM are also suffering from each others love phobia, perhaps both the parties forgot the golden days, when leader of both the parties abused each other on T.V screens and 180 million people of Pakistan watched this non-sense and immoral show. Mian Sahib Congratulation, what a politics of principles you are playing. I am sure these bullies and small ethnic and right wing political group can not harm PPP by digging into heel. PPP is the party of federation and has roots across Pakistan. It has its own history of sacrifices for this country and people of Pakistan. Hate mongers and conspiracy hatchers should understand, they can not topple PPP.

In a democracy, every political party has a right to tap into a new voter base and bank. However MQM is wreaking havoc once again. For how long will the MQM throw dust in the eyes of the people? It is really sad that the media has been unable to reveal the true face of the supposedly peaceful MQM. Sindh lost peace ever since the inception of the MQM..This party has enjoyed power for more than two decades. MQM is one of those political parties that came into being as the result of divide and rule policy of General Zia. General Zia had a complex planning to rule by keeping all the political power under his thumb. The motive, for creating this ethnic group was also to divide PPP strength in Karachi and urban Sindh . General Zia Ul Haq also, created his political descendant, called Mian Nawaz Sharif, who formed a faction of Pakistan Muslim League, to divide the PPP strength in Punjab. Over the years, PML-N was able to develop and gain its terrain in the province. People still remember the infamous slogans of, “Jaag Punjabi Jaag”, which were once raised by N League to awaken the souls of Punjabis in deep slumber. (At least from N League’s view).However both the parties failed to ditch PPP in Punjab and Sindh despite their tireless efforts and still PPP stands at top as a party of federation.

Asma Tariq | 13 years ago | Reply Not one to shy away from media coverage, Altaf ‘bhai’ has outdone himself once again. In his latest statement he accused of government for being autocratic in nature and only the MQM can bring the country out of its present crises”. Infact sitting in the laps of dictators, it is hard for MQM chief to digest democracy. Democratic environment stinks MQM chief. He still could not forget the golden days of Musharraf era and often day dreams of those days, therefore he sometimes he invites general to take control, sometimes he blames democracy and even sometimes he finds traces of dictatorship in a democratic government. It is height of illusions. Altaf Bhai ( Bahi “ Underworld Don”) claimed that if the MQM were brought into power it would rid the nation of corruption, nepotism and fix the country’s financial and economic problems; funny how he forgot to mention the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi. Some people even go as far as saying that the MQM is carrying out ethnic cleansing of the Pashtuns in Karachi. The last thing this country needs is the MQM in power. We do not want to be ruled by the gun.

blithe | 13 years ago | Reply I find it really hard to trust MQM. They could be bargaining like so many times before, bidding up their value so corrupt Zaradari eventually pays the extortionist Altaf even more. MQM are experts in this game. Principles mean nothing to them.

Mohammad Ali Siddiqui | 13 years ago | Reply After Fazal-ur-Rehman, Mr. Altaf Hussain of MQM will be calling Mian Nawaz Shariff of PML(N) in a day or two and will discuss the overall political situation in the country. Chaudhry’s of Gujrat will also leave PPP, once Moonis Elahi is freed from NICL case. This time MQM has taken a stiff stand. Even MQM refused to meet Baba Rehman Malik, Federal Minister of Interior in London. There is a lot of up and down which will be seen in Pakistan. Senator Raza Rabbani will be asked to resign from the Senate as he will be offered to become Governor of Sindh. On the other hand, Zulfiqar Mirza will be asked to vacate Provincial Assembly seat. He will then file his nomination to become Senator. Both Zulfiqar Mirza and his wife Fahmida who is also speaker of National Assembly will be living together in Islamabad. PPP will have to find a suitable person (who will be talking less and listening more) in Sindh to fill the vacant position of Zulfiqar Mirza. The fall out of AJK elections will change the present political scenario. The possibility is that the next general elections will be held much before time. Time has come to say goodbye to PPP and make a new alliance which should be capable to take out the nation from the miseries and agony. “Democracy is the best revenge”.
