Shehbaz’s NA speech ‘since morning’ irks Fawad

At the time of the federal minister's tweet, Shehbaz had been speaking in NA for almost two hours

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday moved an amendment in assembly rules to restrict the opposition leader's speech to 45 minutes after Shehbaz Sharif's hours-long speech dominated the post-budget session.

In a tweet, Chaudhry stated Shehbaz's speech had nothing substantial "and there was no end in site [sic]", adding long speeches were a waste of taxpayers' money and lawmakers time.

At the time of the federal minister's tweet, Shehbaz had been speaking in the Lower House for almost two hours.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Khurseed Shah holds the unofficial record for longest NA speech at four hours and 19 minutes.

During the session, NA speaker Asad Qaiser commented that Shehbaz has broken Shah's record for the longest speech, to which the PPP leader commented: "My record for NA speech is 4 hours 19 minutes. Shehbaz hasn't broken my record yet. He has only spoken for 2 hours so far."

State of economy reflects collective failure of 70 years, Shehbaz speaks in NA

Following a week-long ruckus in the National Assembly, Shehbaz finally opened the post-budget speech on Wednesday saying the abject state of Pakistan’s economy today was a reflection of collective failures over the past 70 years.

“Sincere and immediate corrective measures are needed to improve the economic situation of the country,” he stressed.
