Criminal record system set for revamp

IGP directs officials to submit proposals within 10 days

Punjab Inspector General Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan ordered the formation a five-member committee to recommend improvements to the Criminal Record Management System.

He expressed these views while issuing directions to senior officials at a meeting on Tuesday at the Central Police Office. The IGP ordered that the committee should submit its recommendations within the next ten days at the meeting of the police executive board.

He expressed that the Criminal Record Management System is an important project for monitoring criminals and controlling crime. Ensuring it is upgrade is necessary, he said. All senior officers should submit the data of criminals and citizens cleared of petty crimes on a timely basis.

He maintained that Police Khidmat Centres are playing an important role in facilitating citizens by issuing character certificates. However, in order to further help them, the content and language of the character certificate will be made clearer.

During the meeting, IT DIG Zulfiqar Hameed briefed the IGP about the performance and upgrade of several projects.

He stated that the Punjab police are using information technology to control crime under the principles of smart and community policing. Currently, the Criminal Record Management System holds the data of more than 1.3 million offenders.

The system is also attached to all interprovincial and district check posts. As a result, the monitoring of anti-social elements is being carried out effectively, he explained.

During the meeting, IT DIG Zulfiqar Hameed, Crime DIG Jawad Ahmad Dogar, IAB DIG Ahsan Younas, Lahore Operations DIG Ashfaq Ahmad Khan and other senior officers were also present at the meeting.
