LAHORE: Barki investigation police arrested a man on Thursday for strangling his sister to death for ‘honour’ last month. The accused, identified as Ghulam Ghaus, has been sent to jail on judicial remand.

Reportedly, Mehvish Sajjd had married her cousin Yasir of her own free will. The couple had left their homes in order to do so and got married in court. The family’s elders sat down to deliberate their next step and decided to arrange a formal ceremony as many people were unaware about the nuptials.

After mediating through relatives, the couple returned home. However, on the day of the incident, the accused covered the victim’s mouth with a towel and strangled her as she slept. Later, the accused alleged that the victim had died of a heart attack.

However, when Yasir found out about the incident, he lodged a complaint at the police station. Officials took custody of the body and conducted a post mortem report which proved the murder.

The accused, who had initially fled, was later arrested. Police also seized the towel used to strangle the victim from his possession. The accused was produced before court which sent him to jail.
