Mardan police kill proclaimed offender in encounter

PESHAWAR: The Mardan police killed one while his accomplice fled as officials conducted a targeted operation in the city against proclaimed offenders.

While addressing a presser, Mardan District Police Officer Sajjad Khan stated, that Shaukat, a resident of the Garikapura area was wanted by the police for murder, attacks on police convoys in the Machi area within the remits of the Rustam police station.

He had been booked for murder, threatening a person, attempt to murder, facilitating a criminal act in January this year and again earlier in May for similar charges. DPO Sajjad said that when they neared the suspect’s hideout, Shaukat and his unidentified accomplice allegedly opened fire on the police squad.

When police retaliated, Shukat was killed, while his accomplice fled, DPO Sajjad stated. He added that they recovered an AK-47 automatic rifle, a pistol, and five magazines.
