KARACHI: The Supreme Court (SC) rejected on Thursday the pleas against the acquittal of the accused in the dual murder case in Kot Diji, Khairpur Mirs.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khosa and comprising Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel heard the plea through video link from Islamabad at the Karachi registry. The court rejected the plea filed by Musamma Ehtram Khatoon Laghari and upheld the verdict given by the Sindh High Court (SHC) in the case.

The court remarked that the high court had acquitted the accused on the basis of contradictions in the statements of the eyewitnesses, provided by the prosecution. The medical report was also contradictory to the statements.

Laghari challenged the verdict announced by SHC in which four accused, Amdad Ali, Ali Akbar, Abdul Hameed and Gulzar Ali, were acquitted in December 2018. The accused allegedly killed Ilmuddin and Abdullah in Kot Diji. A total of 19 people were nominated in the case of which, 11 are on the run.
