CM Buzdar calls for people-focused budget

The chief minister ordered that the upcoming budget should depict the aspirations of the people

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar held a meeting to discuss the salient features of the annual development program and reviewed budgetary proposals for the financial year 2019-20. The chief minister, on Wednesday, also discussed proposals for ways to enhance resources for providing basic amenities of life on a priority basis.

The chief minister ordered that the upcoming budget should depict the aspirations of the people and be designed in accordance with the basic necessities of life. He said more funds would be allocated for development of the social sector and resources will be utilised for public welfare as well as the promotion of health and education sectors. “The agriculture sector was ignored by the previous government and farmers were held hostage by the exploitative system.”

Buzdar added that on the contrary, the PTI government has protected farmers’ rights. “The growers of wheat and sugarcane have been given the full reward of their hard work and agriculture sector is an important part of our budgetary priorities.”

He added record funds will be allocated for the agriculture sector and more resources will be provided for the welfare of the people by curtailing unnecessary expenditures. Buzdar said the public-private partnership will be promoted to encourage investment and that an increase in resources for projects of national reconstruction is necessary.
