KARACHI: Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister on Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar has suggested replacing writers with voice recorders to aid visually-impaired candidates in board examination.

Presiding over a meeting at his office on Thursday, Qamar said that DEPD will send letters suggesting this change to the chairmen of all education boards and if implemented, visually-impaired candidates will be able to attempt the exam independently.

During the meeting, Qamar stressed the need to facilitate visually-impaired individuals and decrease their dependency on others.

Visually-impaired persons have lot of potential and they can perform their routine work independently if guided and trained properly, he said, adding that he hoped the use of voice recorders would help them perform better and minimise their dependency on others.

Qamar said that DEPD was trying to get a job quota fixed for visually-impaired persons in private and public sectors.
