RAWALPINDI: Work on water supply scheme from Chahan Dam to Rawalpindi district will start in the next fiscal year, officials said on Monday.

The previous government of PML-N had launched the project 22km away from Rawalpindi city to supply six million gallons water daily (MGD). The PTI government has approved funds for the project and spadework would start in the upcoming financial year.

An amount of Rs200 million has already been released for this project while Rs400 million would be allocated for the project in the upcoming budget from which a filtration plant at Chahan Dam and a pumping station in Union Council (UC) Ranyal would be constructed.

An official told Daily Express that working on the huge project would start from next month. He added the chief minister had given approval for funds while all UCs of PP-12 constituencies would be supplied water from this project.

He added the water supply would be extended to cantonment areas as well.

People would be seeing its benefits in summer 2021.
