ISLAMABAD: Maintaining that terrorist activities were aimed at creating unrest in the Muslim world, religious scholars belonging to different schools of thought resolved on Sunday to thwart conspiracies against Islam through unity.

Speaking at the Tahafuz-e-Harmain Al-Sharifain Al-Aqsa Conference, they observed that terrorist activities were meant to undermine the unity and integrity of the Muslim Ummah.

The conference was presided over by Tahir Ashrafi, the chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC).

The speakers at the event included Maulana Abdul Hamid Watto, Maulana Mian Rashid Munir, Maulana Malik Haq Nawaz, Maulana Ahsan Ahmed Husseini, Maulana Aseedur Rehman Saeedi, Sufi Rizwan Tabbasum, Maulana Hafiz Ishaq and Maulana Kamran Hazarvi.

They vowed to eradicate the menace of terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence from the Muslim world.

Ashrafi announced that congregations, seminars and conferences would be held across the country during the holy month of Ramazan for promoting peace, stability and moderate Islam.

He said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had a close relationship and both countries faced the same enemies.

“Pakistan is the first nuclear power of the Muslim world and Saudi Arabia is the centre of the Islamic faith,” he noted.

“Terrorist attacks in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are point to the fact that the enemies of Islam are targeting the centres of Muslim power.”

Ashrafi said conspiracies would be foiled with the unity of the Muslim Ummah. “We assure our complete support to Saudi Arabia for peace, stability and security of Harmain Al-Sharifain,” he added.

A resolution was adopted at the conference paying homage to the martyrs of the recent Data Darbar suicide attack.

Talking to reporters after the conference, Ashrafi lauded the government’s decision to hand over the control of madrassas to the education ministry.

“We thank the government for fulfilling this demand of the seminaries,” he said. “We will not compromise on the autonomy and freedom of Madaris-e-Arabia.”
