Menace of corruption

Letter May 11, 2019
The government should look into this and take concrete steps to ensure a transparent recruitment process

KECH, BALOCHISTAN: Corruption has planted its roots in our country, which keep getting stronger by the day. The menace is destroying lives of the youth who want to make an honest living.

Recently, a few vacancies were announced in the Balochistan Levies. My cousin applied for a position and was shortlisted for a test and interview. When he contacted a person for help with the preparation, they offered to facilitate him in securing the position and also sell him a previous test paper and interview questions for Rs400,000. It is impossible to expect someone from our area to pay such a high price for a job. Most of the residents belong to humble backgrounds, and such official jobs are a way of securing their future as they provide financial security. However, such experiences make it impossible for people to even dream of living a better life. The government should look into this and take concrete steps to ensure a transparent recruitment process, and root out these black sheep. Corruption is eating into the vitals of our nation. It is killing merit and progress and development. At the heart of the matter is selfishness. Drive out selfishness from society to root out the evil of corruption.
