Conflicts in family laws discussed

Issues related to conflict of personal laws were discussed and deliberated on during a panel discussion on a book on the subject which has been recently published. The book, Family Laws in Pakistan, has been written by legal scholars Zubair Abbasi and Shahbaz Ahmad Cheema. It was published by the Oxford University Press who co-hosted the panel along with the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Department of Law and faculty of Shariah and Law. The panel discussion featured Dr Shaheen Sardar Ali; IIUI Law Department Chairman Dr Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad, the two co-authors and Prof Dr Muhammad Munir as moderator.  The speakers highlighted that the book will provide students and the legal community with a comprehensive treatise on the various aspects of family laws in Pakistan, and will prove to be a valuable addition to scholarly works on the subject. They stated that the book provides an updated account of the principles and practices of family laws in Pakistan and is primarily based on the latest case law and statutes. The authors not only presented a systemically organised case law but also evaluated leading judicial precedents.
