Govt deploys police personnel, paramilitary forces at the shrine ahead of the event

The three-day-long celebrations to mark the Urs of the Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar will commence today in Sindh's town of Sehwan, Radio Pakistan reported.

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail is expected to inaugurate the three-day commemoration. Thousands of devotees from across the nation have started to arrive at the shrine for the celebrations.

The government has tightened security around the area and deployed at least 5,000 police personnel and 1,000 paramilitary forces. Walk-through gates have been set up at entry points.

In February 2017, at least 72 people were killed and over 200 injured in a suicide bombing at the shrine. Police officials had confirmed that the incident was a suicide attack.
