RAWALPINDI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) should stop its notices and harassment campaign in the garb of tax collection, said Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President Malik Shahid Saleem. Speaking to a meeting of traders at the Chamber House on Tuesday, he pointed out that harassment was sparking fear amongst traders and industries. “Companies and individuals are being served with audit notices and then offered the option of paying a nominal penalty to get ‘off the hook’,” he alleged. “The FBR must facilitate taxpayers and divert its focus to potential taxpayers.” He lamented that instead of penalising non-filers of tax returns, notices were being served on the taxpayers who were filing returns. He warned that such acts by the FBR would serve as a disincentive to the potential taxpayers eager to join the tax net.
