The scourge of terror

With the terrorist attack in Hazarganji, bubble of foolproof security in Pakistan for its people has burst once again

LAHORE: With the terrorist attack in Hazarganji, Quetta, the bubble of foolproof security in Pakistan for its people has burst once again. The province of Balochistan looks like a playground for terrorists, with the authorities left looking powerless. The possibility of involvement of a foreign hand cannot be ruled out, so we should take steps to foil their evil designs. Now all our attention seems to be focused on corruption. Have we lowered our guard against the terrorists?  Our economy is in a mess and business and trade is facing a slump. The government recently asked for performance report from the Sindh police and said it would be made public, even though knowledgeable sources say it is against the norm. According to the report, targeted killings and street crimes have increased in Sindh in recent times, and the police have failed to curb these.

The situation has left us confused about political stability. There is a huge gap between the expectations of the common people and the ability of the government to deliver. Our TV agitators — anchors, hosts, guests and all the participants of talk shows, deliver empty lectures. They are well paid and well fed. Why should they and our politicians care for the plight of the common man. Both politician and agitators go on promising the common people the future golden time which never comes.

Our country is facing multiple crises. Our biggest problems are terrorism and a faltering economy. Politicians should set aside their differences and work together to steer the country out of the crises that the country is in. How long will politicians go on making empty promises to the common people?
