CBC launches campaign against polythene bags

Confiscates plastic bags from commercial markets and distributes paper bags to the shopkeepers

KARACHI: Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) has begun its campaign against polythene bags. It started confiscating plastic bags from commercial markets and distributed paper bags to the shopkeepers as a symbolic gesture.

According to CBC, designated teams simultaneously visited Clifton's 10 wards and started confiscating plastic bags being used by numerous shopkeepers at the commercial markets and as a symbolic gesture, the shopkeepers were also provided with paper bags.

During the campaign, the shopkeepers were warned, especially those involved in plastic bags business, that the standard operating procedures formed for the elimination of plastic bags, as per CBC authorities, have been approved and from now on, till the next one and a half months, the plastic bags used during buying and selling will be confiscated. If the shopkeepers continue to violate the order after June 1, they will be fined.
