BHAKKAR: Deputy Commissioner Captain (Retd) Waqas Rasheed said the Punjab government has set a target of around 132,000 tonnes for wheat procurement across the province.

He issued this statement during a surprise visit to the wheat procurement centre in Bhakkar. He said in 2019, wheat would be purchased from farmers at Rs1,300 per maund and Rs9 per 100kg would be paid as delivery charges.

Local farmers have submitted approximately 15,000 applications to acquire gunny sacks. The farmers loaded their wheat crop into tractor trollies and brought it to food centres established by the Punjab government. A complaint cell has also been set up at the DC office to resolve the issues of farmers. In this regard, District Food Controller Sagheer Ahmed Alvi and Food Centre Incharge Bhakkar-II Wasim Khan Shahani said measures were being taken to make the wheat procurement process transparent.
