The aim was to allow young artists to display their creations from all regions of the country, in any medium and that too under one roof. In a press release issued by the council, it boasted that Young Artists’ Award was one of the most prestigious honours for artists by any government or nongovernment organisation.
“The Lahore Arts Council is thankful to all the artists for their enthusiastic participation in this exhibition. I would like to congratulate all the winners who have received the Ten Best Artworks award. We hope to continue this exhibition for upcoming years with more zeal and improvement,” said Lahore Arts Council Executive Director Ather Ali Khan.
The statement said the exhibition was a great opportunity for young artists and now the upper age limit has been reduced from 35 to 32 years. “The Alhamra Art Gallery received approximately 600 artworks from all over the country.”
It said these artworks were created by 362 artists from Jamshoro, Bhakar, Hyderabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Islamabad, Kasur, Gujrat, Swabi, Bhawalpur, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Chiniot and many other parts from the country. “Artworks in mediums like painting, sculpture, installation, video, ceramic, miniature painting, drawings, printmaking and video were on display.”
The exhibition was curated by Arts and Culture Director Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi and Assistant Director Minaa Haroon. Artists Association of Punjab Chairman Mian Ijazul Hassan was the chief guest of the award distribution ceremony and inaugurated the exhibition. The award distribution ceremony was held in Hall number-II of the Alhamra Art Centre at 4:00 pm on Wednesday. It was followed by the opening of the exhibition which will continue till April 26. All the work will be on sale to the public.
The jury members judging the competition included Artists’ Association of Punjab General Secretary Ghulam Mustafa, National College of Arts Professor and Head of Fine Arts Department Quddus Mirza, former principal College of Arts and Design Rahat Naveed Masood and National College of Arts Assistant Professor R M Naeem.
The creators of the ten best paintings received cash prizes of RS10,000 each, along with certificates and shields, for submitting remarkable artworks. Ariba Hamid, Haya Zahra, Maryam Farooq, Sana Waqar, Sana Khalil, Sanie Bokhari, Sidra Liaqat, Tehreem Sarfraz, Yaseen Khan and Zoha Zafar Malik were rewarded for their contribution to the exhibition.
“The audience was delighted with the diversity of artworks on display and the amount of effort put into the field of visual arts. Every bit of artwork is better than the other. This exhibition is creating dialogue about our youth’s conceptual understanding of the world and highlighting their creative energies and minds to speak about their perspectives; individually and collectively,” the statement read.
It added that the Young Artists’ Exhibition provides a platform for the youth to showcase its work to a larger audience at the national level.
