Ninth grader injures invigilator after being caught cheating in Islamabad

Teachers threaten boycott citing lack of security arrangements at examination centres

ISLAMABAD: In a rather shocking turn of events, a ninth grader physically assaulted an invigilator on Monday after he caught the student cheating during the annual examinations being conducted under the federal education board.

Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Ramzan was hit on face, nearly turning him blind in one eye.

The incident happened due to lack of security arrangements made at the examination centers during the ninth and tenth grade examinations in the capital.

The Federal Government Teachers Association (FGTA) president, Malik Amir, demanding provision of security for teachers at examination centres, said that if culprit was not arrested and brought to justice, teachers would boycott examinations.



According to details, Ramzan, while performing his duties as deputy superintendent at Islamabad Model College for Boys, caught a student, identified as Aman Zaib, cheating and recovered ‘hidden notes’ from his possession, making him annoyed.

The enraged student started hurling threats at the deputy superintendent and eventually attacked him with a sharp-edged metal tool, which struck close to the teacher’s left eye. Blood started pouring out, making other students flee the scene.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Ramazn said he was attacked with a dagger, adding that the staff present on premises immediately provided first-aid to him. A complaint of the incident was later lodged at the Bani Gala police station.

The FGTA president said that superintendents and their deputies must be given the magisterial powers while ninth and tenth grade examinations were underway.

It may be mentioned that prior to today’s episode, a firing incident also took place outside an examinations center in the capital’s G-8 area.
