Court directs NAB to ensure witness’s presence

In the Rs5.76 billion corruption reference in information department

KARACHI: An accountability court directed on Saturday officials of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to ensure the presence of the witness in the Rs5.76 billion corruption reference in information department at the next hearing on April 13.

Former provincial minister for information, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Inam Akbar and other accused were produced before the court by the jail officials. NAB's witness, Ali Gohar Sheikh, however, did not appear before the court. The counsel for the accused was scheduled to cross question the statement by the witness.

Meanwhile, in Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL) corruption reference against Dr Asim Hussain and others, an accountability court adjourned the hearing till April 20 as the judge in the case was on leave. NAB's witness in the case did not appear before the court.

Dr Asim and others have been accused of misuse of authority and embezzling Rs17 billion.
