FAISALABAD: Efforts must be accelerated for the allocation of necessary funds in the next federal budget for swift construction of the Faisalabad Expo Centre, insisted Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Syed Zia Alumdar Hussain.

Speaking at a special meeting of the FCCI Standing Committee on Expo Centre, he recalled that 70 kanals of land had been earmarked in the M-3 Industrial City for the purpose. Referring to his recent meeting with Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, Hussain revealed that the PM aide had directed the Expo Private Limited CEO to complete initial formalities so the FCCI could organise next ‘Made in Faisalabad’ exhibition at the Expo Centre.

He expressed satisfaction that relevant departments had been directed to include the expo centre project in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for fiscal year 2019-20. “Now, it is our duty to initiate follow-up measures in a bid to ensure speedy implementation of this project,” he emphasised.

FCCI Standing Committee on Expo Centre Chairman Mian Javaid Iqbal stressed the need for constructing the exhibition centre as an iconic identification of Faisalabad.

The standing committee reviewed a feasibility report, planning, expansion and any amendment to the proposed plan in addition to availability of funds.

The chairman was of the view that allocated funds should be in conformity with the set government parametres. He instructed the chamber to remain in touch with Expo Private Limited during preliminary planning so implementation and start of the project could be ensured in a planned and systematic way.
