QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has said the remaining 20 per cent work on 450 ongoing development projects in the province will be completed in the coming months.

“Eighty per cent work has been completed,” said the chief minister while chairing a meeting to review the affairs of health, education and irrigation sectors at the CM Secretariat on Monday.

Provincial ministers Saleem Khosa, Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani, Sardar Abdul Rehman Kethran, Naseebullah Marri, Muhammad Khan Lehri, Chief Secretary Dr Akhter Nazeer, Additional CS P&D Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta and government officials were present.

Chief Minister Kamal directed the concerned authorities to implement the district development programme, stressing upon neutrality and fairness in the process.

It was decided in the meeting that all government departments would start preparations for new development projects ahead of the fiscal year 2019-20. For the purpose, seminars would be conducted to receive experts’ opinions and suggestions for finalising the development budget.

The meeting also announced facilities for all government boys and girls schools and implementation of the Chief Minister Initiative Programme to turn government schools into state-of-the-art educational institutes.

The meeting also approved recommendations for filling 700 vacant posts of teaching staff and lecturers.

In a bid to provide quality health facilities, the chief minister approved additional funds for teaching hospitals in Loralai, Khuzdar and Turbat and decided to induct new projects to ensure health facilities in DHQ hospitals and rural health centres.

CM Kamal directed the health department to form a committee to ensure purchase of medicines for the government hospitals. The provincial finance minister, health minister, chief secretary and additional CS P&D and DG food would be members of the committee.

It was also decided to provide health educators in government schools and colleges, who would impart first aid training to the teachers while District Mobile Health Units would also be established in schools and colleges.

Addressing the meeting, Kamal directed authorities to prepare an estimate of development projects on which 60 per cent work had been completed and ensure completion of those projects by June 30 under the available funds.

“Revolutionary changes have emerged, but we are standing on a freezing point and are not able to accept them,” said Kamal, adding that their ability was declining due to lack of access to modern technology.

He stressed upon use of modern technology for provincial development.

The meeting also directed the irrigation department to prepare a feasibility report to increase water tax for irrigation and industrial usage.

The finance secretary briefed the meeting regarding financial issues and available resources while the irrigation secretary informed the CM regarding suspension of water project announced by the World Bank.
