LAHORE: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has awarded the contract for civil and electro-mechanical works of Mohmand Dam project to a joint venture comprising China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGC) as the lead firm and Descon Engineering of Pakistan as its partner.

The final worth of the contract stood at Rs183.5 billion which is Rs18 billion lower than that approved in the PC-I. The contract signing ceremony was held at Wapda House on Tuesday. Addressing the ceremony, Wapda Chairman Muzammil Hussain noted that Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project would significantly contribute towards water and energy security of the country.

He reaffirmed Wapda’s commitment to finishing the project as early as possible to cope with Pakistan’s ever-increasing water and electricity needs. He was of the view that the dam would play the role of a catalyst in stabilising the national economy.
