District police likely to get fresh recruits to overcome the shortage of personnel

RAWALPINDI: In a bid to control criminal activities in Rawalpindi, the Punjab government and Inspector General Police office has approved the construction of new police stations along with the reconstruction of five old stations in Rawalpindi district.

The district police are likely to get fresh recruits to overcome the shortage of personnel.

According to senior police officials there were only 30 precincts, including the women police stations for a population of 5.5 million.

Earlier, the Rawalpindi police had sent a summary to establish eight new police stations which was rejected by the Punjab government however it allowed four new ones.

The approval for four new police stations was expected in the second phase in the fiscal budget of 2019-20.

In the first phase, Sadiqabad police station would be split into new Shakaryal and Sadiqabad police stations, the New Town police station would be divided into Pindora and New Town police stations and Airport police station would be split into Chah Sultan and Airport police stations.

Further, the Saddar Baironi police station would be split into new Ranyal and Saddar Baironi police station.
