Law students’ dilemma

Letter March 16, 2019
Law Admission Test and Law Undergraduate Scholarship Test scheduled to be held on the same date

TURBAT: The recent announcement of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to conduct standardised tests has caused law students a great deal of worry.

The HEC has scheduled the Law Admission Test (LAT) and Law Undergraduate Scholarship Test on the same date, on March 17, 2019, but at different venues due to which hundreds of students will miss the opportunity to appear for both the tests.

The LAT will take place at the University of Turbat, and the test for the Law Undergraduate Scholarship will take place at Jinnah University for Women in Karachi. This leads to the dilemma amongst many students, i.e. how they can appear for both the tests in the same day?

The law undergraduate students have been awaiting the dates for these tests for a long time and now many will have to withdraw their applications for a scholarship — an opportunity they rarely have in the first place.

Despite the test eligibility criteria, which include present undergraduate students, many are now concerned whether the Balochistan Undergraduate Scholarship Test is only for prospective students, or they too can appear in that? Immediate action is required by the HEC to postpone one of the tests so that undergraduate students do not miss the opportunity of contesting for a scholarship.
