Women empowerment

Empowering women and achieving gender equality is essential for our society

LAHORE: Empowerment is the process that creates power in individuals over their own lives, society and in their communities. People are empowered when they are able to access the opportunities available to them without limitations and restrictions.

Having the liberty to make your own decisions creates a sense of empowerment. It also includes the action of raising the status of women through education, awareness, literacy and training.

Empowering women and achieving gender equality is essential for our society to ensure the sustainable development of the country, and many world leaders have argued in favour of the cause.

Sustainable development includes environmental protection, and social and economic justice; and without women actively participating, we cannot achieve these goals. In the context of women and development, empowerment must include allowing women possessing control over their own decisions, without which the country cannot progress.

Therefore, scholars agree that educating women and allowing them agency over decisions related to them is one of the significant contributors leading to development. Without the equal inclusion of women in society, women would not be able to contribute to the country’s growth.
