Need to implement health reforms, says K-P minister

Dr Hisham says govt wants to provide healthcare to people in far-flung areas

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Dr Hisham Inamullah Khan on Friday stressed the need for implementing new health policy saying it would ensure the provision of health facilities to the people in far flung areas at their doorsteps.

The minister said that in the strategies for the implementation of new health policy, the challenges of modern era and situation faced by the society in the new scenario must be kept in mind as the same is the main challenge to the present government.

He was presiding over a high level meeting at his office on Friday. The meeting was aimed to discuss the strategies prepared for the implementation of the new health policy.

The health minister said that health units in rural areas were short of facilities and unable to provide healthcare in case of a serious outbreak.

On this occasion the minister directed the authorities concerned to suggest changes in the present administrative set up so that technical and export hands are included in monitoring and implementation process of the new health policy. He directed the authorities to create new posts and trainings opportunities for nurses, pathologists, psychologists, radiologists, and emergency specialists in the rural areas as without these technical hands, provision of health facilities could not be insured.

The meeting finalised the changes for the improvement of different sectors of health department i.e Healthcare Institutes, health management services, monitoring and evaluation and implementation.
