Martyred police constable laid to rest

A murder case has been registered at Civil Lines police station against two unidentified persons

KARACHI: The murder case of the police constable, who was killed during a combing operation by law enforcement agencies in Hijrat Colony on Saturday, has been registered at the Civil Lines Police Station. The funeral prayers for the martyred constable were held on Sunday at Gizri Graveyard, Defence Housing Authority.

Police constable, Jehangir Khan, son of Saleem, was reportedly gunned down by two unidentified persons whose faces were easily discernible. The incident occurred while the constable was conducting reconnaissance for the combing operation in the area. The 29-year-old had been appointed at Civil Lines police station for intelligence duties.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Khan's father said that he was the eldest of nine children and was the sole breadwinner of the family. He added that his daughter was coming to Karachi from Dubai in a few days as the family was planning for Khan's marriage. The aggrieved father commended his son's bravery and asked police officials to appoint his other son in place of the one who had been martyred. He said the perpetrators should be brought to justice by the authorities.

The funeral prayers were attended by Khan's family and friends as well as Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, Karachi Additional IG Dr Amir Shaikh, officials of Sindh Rangers, zonal DIGs, the chief of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), Karachi Traffic Police DIG, district SSPs and other officials.
Dr Imam announced the compensation package for the family of the martyred constable and directed the police officials present on the occasion to complete all necessary legal and departmental formalities as soon as possible.

He offered his condolences to the aggrieved family and assured them that the perpetrators would be caught soon. The Sindh IGP paid tribute to the constable's services to the police department and said that Sindh police was a determined force and such 'disgusting' tactics could not discourage the valour of the police. He added that the on-going operations against crime should be accelerated and intelligence based operations should be strengthened and made more effective.

Case registered

A case has been registered against the unidentified persons at Civil Lines police station. The case has been filed under sections of murder, attempt to murder, police encounter and terrorism.
