Govt fixes Qingqi fares

KARACHI: The Sindh government issued on Saturday a notification fixing fares for Qingqi Rickshaws. According to the notification, has fixed Rs10 as fare of Qingqi rickshaw will charge Rs10 for a journey up to six kilometres and Rs15 will be charged for distances of more than six kilometres. The Sindh government has permitted that only four passengers would be allowed to ride a Qingqi rickshaw. The three wheeler must have an excise and taxation department registration, says the notification.

Meanwhile, the All Karachi Qingqi Rickshaw Welfare Association has expressed pleasure over the notification issued by the provincial transport minister.

While talking to The Express Tribune, the association's president, AA Wahidi, said that the routes have to be decided for the connecting roads.

The association has applied for 90 routes and when these routes will be decided, the Qingqi rickshaws will be out on roads again, he said.

"We are grateful to the courts for giving permission," he said and demanded that the laws made for the Qingqi rickshaws be made a part of the Motor Vehicle Ordinance.
