LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has neither shown interest nor disinterest in accepting treatment at Jinnah Hospital, said Medical Superintendent Dr Asim Hameed.

He said Jinnah Hospital is fully equipped to provide treatment to Nawaz as per recommendations of the medical board. He said the board had on Tuesday forwarded its recommendations to the government.

He added it would now be up to the government to decide future course of action in light of the recommendation.

“If the government decides to offer Nawaz treatment at Jinnah Hospital then it would be entirely up to the former prime minister to accept the offered treatment,” said Dr Hammed, adding in case Nawaz Sharif refuses to accept the treatment then it again would be for the government to decide.

“However, Jinnah Hospital has received no letter from the Home Department regarding Nawaz’s treatment.”

Nawaz Sharif content with treatment, says doctor

To a question regarding Nawaz being shifted to a hospital in Rawalpindi, he said it would be the decision of the government to do so but as far as offering him medical treatment is concerned, Jinnah Hospital has all the required medical facilities. He said the hospital has the cardiac surgical back up required for the cardiac catheterisation as demanded by the medical board.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz Sharif speaking to the media on her arrival at Jinnah Hospital said that angiography is not an easy procedure and the board has advised for a cardiac backup for his treatment.

To a question regarding Nawaz Sharif’s health, she said his health has been stated in his medical report. Reportedly Maryam has also denied rumors of shifting Nawaz Sharif to Rawalpindi.

Nawaz Sharif’s personal physician Dr Adnan said they have not decided about the angiography as yet. He said the final decision regarding the treatment would be taken by the Sharif family. He said they will only decide after receiving the recommendations of the doctors.
