NAB considers shifting fake accounts case to Islamabad

Makes several teams to record statements from Karachi, federal capital

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday reviewed initial report of a combined investigation team (CIT) on a laundering case that involves the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership and made several teams to record statements in Karachi and Islamabad in light of evidence.

According to a press release, the decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the accountability watchdog’s Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal. The meeting discussed transferring of case under 16-A from the Banking Court Karachi to an accountability courts in Islamabad.

The meeting also reviewed progress in corruption cases and devised a comprehensive strategy to effectively deal with such cases.     NAB chairman directed officials to implement the Supreme Court judgement in the case in letter and spirit by using all resources.



He said NAB believes in taking the investigations to its logical conclusion in light of law and concrete evidence. He urged media to avoid speculations regarding the cases.

The high-level meeting was attended by NAB prosecutor general, director general (DG) Operations, NAB Rawalpindi DG and other senior officers. NAB chairman had constituted a CIT, headed by NAB Rawalpindi DG in pursuant of the SC’s last month’s order.

The chairman had also decided to personally supervise CIT. The apex court on Jan 7 ordered that the case be forwarded to NAB and directed the graft buster to wrap up its investigation within two months.
