Inter-ministerial panel formed for communications sector

Federal Minister for Communications Murad Saeed says group will include representatives from 10 ministries

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Murad Saeed has said the government is establishing a working group comprising representatives from 10 ministries to bring improvement in the communications sector.

“The representatives in the group will be from the ministries of communications, maritime, trade, interior, defence, aviation, railways, postal services, economic affairs and the Federal Board of Revenue,” said the minister while chairing a meeting of the Logistics and Transport Working Group on Thursday.

“An effective communications system is vital for a strong and robust economy,” said Saeed, adding that for the first time in the country's history, the government was taking concrete steps to improve the transport sector.

He said the Es Working Group was being established to ensure convenience of the logistics and transport facilities and its meeting would be called soon.

“Logistics velocity of supply chain will increase production of the industries sector,” said Saeed, adding that planning would be done to upgrade the transport sector to meet international standards.

“The working group will make rules for the logistics and transport sector,” the minister said, announcing training of drivers and distribution of informative pamphlets.

He said the group would also present its recommendations for upgrading the transport fleet.
