ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police have arrested 157 suspects during the last three weeks for involvement in drug peddling and bootlegging activities, a police spokesman said on Monday.

He said that the police also recovered 75.637 kilogram hashish, 5.88 kilogram heroin, 1.31 kilogram opium, 698 grammes of methamphetamine ice, 10 grammes cocaine and 859 bottles of liquor from them.

Meanwhile, the police spokesman also mentioned that Islamabad police launched special crackdown against those involved in supplying drugs at educational institutions and nabbed four persons. A total of 3.4 kilogramme hashish and 325 grammes of heroin were also recovered from them, he said.

Quoting SSP Islamabad Waqaruddin Syed, he said it is the prime responsibility of the police to provide relief to citizens and every possible effort would be made to ensure it. Following directions and guidance of Islamabad IGP Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar, he said that the utmost efforts would be made to curb crime.
