QUETTA: Education Secretary Tayyab Lehri has said Madrassa reforms are underway and all religious scholars would be taken into confidence in this regard.

Keeping in view the requirements of the modern day, madrassa reforms are indispensable — the prevalent situation in Balochistan calls for immediate reforms in madrasas, he said while addressing a workshop arranged by the Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP) under the title “Balochistan Madrassa Regulatory Authority Act 2018”.

He said that religious madrassas have played a significant role in the solidarity of nation.

Schools Director Syed Anwar Shah, Development Additional Secretary Jahangir Khan and religious scholars were present on the occasion.

The participants stressed that madrassa reforms should be made in conformity with the teachings of Islam.

Lehri assured the participants that no law would be formulated that may become the source of a conflict between law and religion.

He said that the government wants to run madrassas independently and according to the needs of the modern-day. He urged religious scholars to support government in this regard.

He voiced the hope of receiving positive suggestions from religious scholars.
