CM orders indiscriminate action to retrieve department’s assets

LAHORE: To generate resources from the local sources, the Punjab government has decided to revamp the Punjab Cooperative Department by formulating a new lease policy for assets and properties of the department.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has given approval for the formulation of the new policy. Presiding over a high-level meeting on Saturday, Buzdar underscored the need to make Cooperative Department more effective and vibrant. It was decided in the meeting that lease rates would be reviewed to make them equal to the market rates.

The chief minister directed that strict legal action be taken immediately against persons who had occupied assets and properties of the Cooperatives Department. He ordered indiscriminate action to retrieve department’s assets and properties from illegal occupants. The government would provide all-out support to the department for this operation, he maintained.

He also directed authorities to make physical verification of assets and properties of the department. The chief minister said that process of appointments to the board of directors of the Cooperatives Bank should be completed immediately and a summary in this regard should be moved immediately keeping in view all legal aspects so that the Cooperatives Bank may be brought at par with the modern trends in the banking sector.

Buzdar also has given the approval for launching tractors scheme for arid districts of Punjab. He said a coordinated policy should be worked out to start work on this scheme. “The scheme will benefit farmers.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will make every possible effort for the welfare of farmers, he added.

He said the cooperatives department should work in line with modern trends for the development of the agriculture sector and the department will have to discharge its responsibilities in an effective manner.

The chief minister was briefed about the Cooperatives Department, Punjab Cooperative Bank and Punjab Liquidation Board.
