ABBOTTABAD: Abbottabad police have cast a wider net to catch the three-year old girl’s killer by testing DNA of at least 274 people.

Investigating the rape and murder of the child found dead in a field near Kayla Village of Havelian tehsil, police have so far taken blood  samples of 274 people for the DNA test, said Abbottabad District Police Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat while talking to the media.

“Punjab Forensic Science Agency in Lahore will send the DNA and forensic reports in next six days, which will help police in profiling the suspect,” DPO Marwat said.

He said finances were not an issue for conducting the lab tests, neither were any other expenses for investigating the case, which Abbottabad police has taken up as a challenge.

Starting investigation from scratch, police collected DNA samples from the victim’s body and had sent these to Lahore for complete forensic report.

He said that police were wary of interviewing the family of the victim soon after the incident. The exercise will be carried out in due time, he said.

The Abbottabad police chief said that they have also acquired services of some seasoned police officers who had carried out such kind of investigations in other parts of the country.

“We are close to finding a clue and will be marking a suspect after the DNA tests reports,” he said.

DPO Marwat further informed that K-P IG Salahuddin Mehsud was personally monitoring the entire inquiry process.

In the meantime, joint session of Tehsil Council Havelian and Abbottabad were held at Abbottabad where unanimous resolution was passed by the both houses presided by the Naib Nazim Abbottabad Sardar Shujja and Naib Nazim Havelian Amir Shezad which were addressed by the Tehsil Nazim Abbottabad Muhammad Ishaque Zakariya and Arsal Pervez of Havelian for the early arrest of the culprit and exemplary punishment.
