KARACHI:

Three members of the EOBI trade union, who were dismissed from service at the Employees Old Benefit Institution (EOBI), were given their jobs back by the order of a court on Friday.

Sindh High Court’s Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi heard the case here on Friday.

The bench had earlier heard Syed Haider Imam Rizvi, the lawyer for the petitioners Faraz Hussain Zuberi, the organising secretary of the trade union, Mushtaq Hussain Shah and Nadeem Hussain Shah, employees and members of the union.

They were fired on charges of maligning the chairman and other senior officials of the EOBI by perpetual complaints to high-ups and the media. The petitioners’ counsel contended that his clients were not served any show-cause notices or allowed to explain their position and were dismissed from service in an arbitrary manner.

The orders passed were in violation of the laws and were thus liable to be set aside, he argued.

After the initial hearing, the bench suspended the dismissal orders and directed the EOBI to give them their jobs back.

The bench also issued notices for the EOBI chairman and Deputy Attorney General (DAG) for a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.
