A robber was killed while two policemen were injured during crossfire within the jurisdiction of Machiwal police station, Vehari on Monday.
The police told Express News that two robbers were fleeing after looting citizens in the area. However, the people informed the patrolling police team which chased the suspects.
When the outlaws reached Chak No 1, they opened fire on the police party. The police retaliated and an encounter occurred. During the crossfire, one of the robbers was killed while another fled under the cover of fire. Two police constables, Sharafat Ali and Shahid, also suffered bullet injuries and were shifted to hospital for treatment.
The police said the deceased robber was identified as Imran alias Mani. The accused was wanted to the police in several murder and robbery cases. The police have registered a case and conducted raids to arrest the fleeing suspect.
Earlier, a robber was killed while the other was nabbed after being wounded in a police encounter In Gujranwala.
According to details, two robbers barged into the shop of Ramzan traders located on Sialkot Road where the shop owner, Muhammad Kamran was present. The robbers began looting the shop during which a man entered the shop. Upon seeing the robbers, the man left the shop and shouted for help. A patrolling Dolphin force squad reached the site and challenged the culprits.
The robbers opened fire on the police team and tried to escape. During the encounter, one robber was killed while his accomplice was arrested in injured condition.
The police said the nabbed robber was identified as Adeel, who was a resident of Rajkot, while the deceased robber was identified as Malik Imtiaz who hailed from Narowal.
